Democracy in Action

The school council has already had a positive effect on the way we run the school.  Over the last 2 years they have asked us to:

Provide more bins on the playground (these are now in place)

Provide a chiller for sandwiches (this is now in place)

Decorate the dining room (this was done in the summer)

An improve the playground (we hope to make changes to the playground at ½ term)

Organise more clubs at lunchtime (there are new clubs)

Decorate the boys toilets (they have been refurbished)

At the latest meeting of the school council, we discussed:

The state of the girls toilets

Some improvements to the dining room experience

The first meeting was held on Wednesday 9th January.  In attendance was Jamie from Manchester Fayre, the school cook, Sheila, James Roscoe, Nadia Posada and Betty Callaghan all from the school council and Mr Watson.

The school council raised the following points:

  • The cleanliness of the cutlery
  • That the dinners were sometimes cold and that the popular choices such as baked potatoes were not always available.

Responses / actions:

  • All cutlery will now be laid out by lunchtime organisers
  • We will purchase table cloths and flowers for the tables
  • Some new cutlery will be purchased
