News for week ending 30th January
January 30th, 2009 by Mr Sutton and Attendance Figures Week Ending 23rd January
This week our children achieved an overall percentage of 94 % (Nursery not included).
Coming into Reception in the Morning Parents are using the Reception Exit after 9am, this is causing concern as the door does not lock behind them and staff are not always aware the door has been unlocked. We ask all parents to exit along the corridor past the office if they leave the building after 9am. The doors to R1 and R2 will be closed after 9am to remind parents not to exit through this route. If you are coming in through this door when it is closed make sure you close it behind you. We all need to work together to keep our children safe. Like the rest of the school, children should not enter the building through the usual entrance after 9am. They must go to the office and be taken to class once they have been registered there. Thank you for your support in this.
Writing Award Assembly I hope your children have all talked about the Writing Award Assembly we held last week. Some children in Years 3-6 were awarded with medals for their writing and developing writing skills and certificates by a local poet, Shirley May and Cllr Val Stevens. The poet was really inspirational and she has asked us to remind the children about the homework club she runs in Chorlton Library on Tuesday and Thursday after school, 4.30-7.45. Please drop in and find out how it could help your child with homework or project work. The assembly for Key Stage 1 had medals and certificates awarded by a favourite hero of ours, Batman. Well done to all the children who worked hard towards winning their awards.
PFC Reminder The last PFC session is on Tuesday 3rd Feb.
Recognition for Year 6 Work The Year 6 children and staff were delighted this week when John Frink a producer and writer from the Simpsons commented on the Year 6 blog. The Year 6 children worked hard writing their own Simpsons script and then rehearsed and recorded the scripts in small groups. These recordings were then put on the Year 6 Blog. John Frink’s comments were really complimentary and encouraging and showed the Years 6 pupils the power of the blog! Have a look at the school website for yourselves.
Lateness School starts at 8.50, can parents please make an effort to get children to school on time. Children who are late miss an important part of the day and have a bad start to their morning. We also have to use valuable teaching staff taking late children to their classes. Please get here for 8.50.

Nursery News Next week we will be looking at cloth and fabric. Thank you for your donations to our wool and fur table this week. On Friday we will have a special day “wear your favourite clothes!” Our story will be Elves and the Shoemaker. If you have any unwanted shoes in reasonable condition (adult or child size) that we could use for dressing up and shoe shop role play we would welcome them in. We are grateful to everyone who is taking home play bags and returning them promptly each Monday. We have enjoyed reading your comments on the play club cards. All book bags should be brought back to school on Monday. We hope you have a lovely weekend. The Nursery Staff.
Dinner Money At the moment we have a lot of outstanding dinner money arrears. Dinner money can be paid weekly at either the office or given to class teacher in an envelope with the child’s name on. It can also be paid by cheque monthly, half termly or termly. This payment must be paid in advance and not in arrears, as our supplier costs are paid weekly. The parent of any child that has a large amount of arrears may be asked to provide their child with a packed lunch.
If you want to pay in advance for dinner money for the 2nd half of the Spring Term this will cost £54.00
Success of Chorlton Park’s Past Pupils Simon McIntyre, an ex Chorlton Park pupil has been called into the England Under 18 Rugby Final Squad. Simon has been playing at Broughton Park RFC and will hopefully progress to become a Youth International and a full International. Congratulations.
Parent Forum with Headteacher and Chair of Governors Monday 2nd February 9.00-10.00 This meeting will focus on: School dinners – how are we doing? School reports – what might you find useful? Assessments – how do we help your child to improve? If you are not able to attend you can post your thought in the Governor box or address them to Mr Watson before the meeting.
