Measles in School
We have been informed by the Health Protection Agency (public health) that a child who attends this school has measles.
On the advice of Manchester Primary Care Trust and the Health Protection Agency we would like to advise parents that there are two very important things that you can do to help prevent measles in your child.
Firstly it is very important that your child has had two doses of MMR. If you think your child has not had the MMR vaccine or they have only had one dose, please contact your GP as soon as possible.
Secondly, if your child is unwell with symptoms suggestive of measles they should not be in school. Please see the enclosed leaflet, which explains the things to look out for.
The leaflet has information about what you should do if you think your child has measles. If you think your child needs to be seen by a doctor please telephone your GP surgery before you take your child to the surgery – this is because measles is very infectious and your doctor may want to make special arrangements for your child to be seen.
If you and your doctor think your child may have measles please let the school know as well.
You can get further information on measles from NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 or www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk and look up measles
Yours sincerely
