Caribbean Evening

The PTA hosted the Caribbean Evening last night and it was a huge success.  The Evening was relaxed, educational and a really good social.  Thanks for Mrs Spencer and Mrs Edwards and Mrs Coyle for the food and Mrs Bell, Mrs Gilmore, Mrs Walters, Mr Depeiaza and Mr Almond for their organisation.

The children who performed on the evening were very confident and impressed the audience with their knowledge.

Strings Workshop

The children who learn the violin or cello in school with the Manchester Music Service will be taking part in an exciting music workshop on Monday.  They will be composing a piece of music with the help of members of the Manchester Music Service’s Youth Orchestra and Music Service staff.  They will then perform this composition at Showcase 2009, at the Royal Northern College of Music on Monday 6th July.   If your child has not confirmed whether they will be attending the concert by returning their permission slip to Mr Billington, could you please do as soon as possible.

Hello everyone,

The PTA have been giving away more money:

  • - £700 for Year 6 Leavers Activities including: the licence to perform their final show ‘Oliver’; a fab disco; leavers t-shirts
  • - £200 for Miss Etchells’ lunch-time cooking club
  • - £200 for materials for Art Club

All these requests came in from parents and staff who submitted a ‘project approval form’. If you’ve an idea which needs some cash, pop into the school office for a form.

CONGRATULATIONS to the twenty parents and staff who ran the Manchester 10K in aid of the PTA. They’ve raised a whopping £700 so far!

We’ve been discussing several on-going projects including:

  • - Improving the yr 3/4 playground: securing the fort and possibly putting in artificial grass.
  • - After-school clubs: How are the new PTA clubs doing? Any ideas for new clubs we could offer?
  • - Literacy: Reading pledge to be re-launched
  • - Library tidy: A group of parents are needed to help keep the library in order. Let the office staff know.
  • - School Calendar: The ever-popular calendar will be on sale at the winter fair this year, so the dates will run Jan-Dec. The school will issue Autumn Dates.

Welcome to our new Committee members: Mandy McKim and Suzanne Paul. Thank-you so much for joining us.

Dates for your diary:

  • - 4th July Summer Fair – can you help? Pop into the office.
  • - Weds 8th July PTA meeting, 7.30pm
  • - 11th July Summer festival 09 in Chorlton Park

Please remember – if you have suggestions for the PTA, we’d love to hear from you. We’re always looking for new ideas and all help is very gratefully received. Leave us a message at the office.

Netball Team

A big well done to the Year 6 netball team who played a very competitive game against the staff last week. The talent displayed by the girls was amazing and certainly kept the staff on their toes throughout the game.

It was a close match but in the end it was the staff who won. It was lovely to see so many parents and children coming along to watch the game. Thank you to the staff who gave up their time to play and thank you to Roz Callaghan who refereed the match.

Call for Wellies

If you have any spare children’s wellies for reception so that children can go out when it is wet the reception class would really appreciate them.

Nursery News

We had a wonderful visit to Knowsley Safari Park on Thursday.  All of the children were wowed by the animals.  We were wowed by the children’s behaviour.  They were a superb advert for Chorlton Park Primary School and every single parent should feel really proud of their Nursery child.  Thank you to all the parents and friends of the Nursery who came to help us out.  We would not have managed without you.  If you child is moving to Reception in September remember that there is a meeting in the Infant Hall at 2.15pm on 30th June to give you information.

On 8th July the Library Service are visiting for a storytelling session.  This will start at 2.15.  All Nursery parents and younger brothers and sisters of Nursery children are invited to come along.  Please come in through the office entrance on that day.

Have a great weekend – The Nursery Staff.

Sponsored Walk

Thank you to all the children for taking part and the families for helping them raise so much money.  The PTA raised £960.00 (see PTA news for projects this money may go towards).

The last singing club session will be next week the 3rd of July.

Lunch Menu for next week is Week Four and is up on the red Kitchen Notice Board and on the website.
