Reception had a visit from a police horse.  This horse is called Amelia and we will be able to keep in touch with her activities through the website when it is up and running – details to follow.

We have also been visited by Matt Brady and the Blue Watch Team from the Fire Service.

Year 1 have had loads of people come into school to see the children and talk about their jobs and life; veterinary nurse, scientist, social workers, a guide dog and lots more.  Thanks again for the time you took to come in, it was greatly appreciated by the children and staff.

Year 5 would like to thank all the parents who took time off work this week and came in to talk to the children about their work. You know who you are! Also a big thank you to the parents who were brave enough to be interviewed and filmed at home. The week has been a big success and it’s been great for the children to interview so many parents about their jobs.

Year 6 Boys Vs Staff
Yet again another outstanding performance from the Year 6 boys football squad, they played out of their skins. A near full capacity crowd cheered on the boys and staff and witnessed a very close encounter with the score level at full time. The staff later went on to win on penalties. Thank you to all who came along to support and to all those who took part. This year the staff were joined by parents who added to the occasion ….something we might look into next year. Man of the match for Year 6 goes to Parsa. Although everyone played well he was a brick-wall in defence. Man of the Match for staff goes to Mr Depeiaza.

Library

Please can you remind the children to return all library books next week.  We are planning a big tidy and sort out of the library in the last week.  Parents are welcome to join us on Thursday and Friday afternoons (16th and 17th July) from 2pm.  Hope to see you there.

Reading

A big thank you to all the parents that have been reading volunteers this year.  If you are interested in helping next year please talk to Ms Boyle.  Here is what one of our parents thinks:

‘I have been helping to hear readers in Reception and Year 1.  It’s been a really worthwhile activity, doing something useful for the school and helping teachers strengthen the skills of individual children.  It’s actually quite relaxing and enjoyable too!  I’d encourage all parents and grandparents to get involved’ – Jennie Day.

Showcare 2009 at the Royal Northern College of Music

The school’s violin and cello players took part in a fantastic music workshop last Monday.  They enjoyed working with members of the Manchester Youth Orchestra in preparation for their Showcase concert on Monday 6th July.  On Monday the children need to be dropped off in the foyer of the Royal Northern College of Music at 5.00pm – this is a late change.  Children should be in their school uniform (no trainers please).  The concert begins at 7.15pm and should finish at around 9pm.  Mrs Millington and Mr Billington will be there to look after the children.  If you would like to attend the concert tickets are available from the RNCM box office (907 5555).

If your child is also a member of the School Choir and performing with them as part of Showcase that evening they need to be dropped off at 5pm in the Foyer of RNCM.  Mrs Haycocks, Mr Sloan and Miss Etchells will be there to greet the children.

Pick up children from the RNCM at 9.15 after the concert.

Good luck to all the children involved in the concert!

Parent Partnership News

This time last year, The Partnership group (which is made up of parents, staff and governors) asked for your views on things connected with school and parental involvement. We were really pleased with the honesty and ideas that came from this survey, and thought that we would feed back how we have tried to act on some of your comments.

For anyone who intends to go to the theatre performance in the grounds of the town hall as part of the festival, I’m afraid there are no places available on Sunday 5th July. Good Luck to Millie from Year 6

Caribbean Delight!

We had dancing, singing, plays and exceptional food and drink. The PTA were delighted to be involved, but this time, it was very much down to the teachers to make it happen and we’d like to thank them all for the fantastic experience they created for our children and for us.

Summer Fair: This Sat 4th July – 11-2

Please do come along on Saturday and join in the summer fun. There’ll be lots to buy, make, eat, and drink, but the fair isn’t just about raising money; it’s a chance for our school to be together and enjoy ourselves, so there’ll be plenty of free entertainment. One highlight is the Chorlton Park’s Got Talent contest – good luck to all the children taking part! If you can help, but haven’t yet signed up, just make yourself known on the day – we ALWAYS need extra pairs of hands. Or maybe you can rustle up some cakes to sell? Or you’ve got some second hand clothes/toys you could donate?

Thank you in advance for all the parents, carers and staff giving up their time for this summer event.
